Through the Educational Master Plan and extensive meetings with students, staff, and community members, there was a clear need for a new college center in the West Fresno area. This satellite campus will serve as the new home to the Career and Technology Center (CTC).

The project will construct facilities for the Automotive Technology and Automotive Collision Programs from both FCC and CTC; in addition to constructing an academic building facility for general education classrooms and student services. This campus will provide the West Fresno community with a complete college center offering diverse educational opportunities, from career technology courses to transferable college credits.

Through donation and purchases, land was acquired in June 2018, and SIM-PBK was selected as the project architect. Division of the State Architect has approved the plans for the new campus. The Board of Trustees approved a Project Labor Agreement (PLA) in February 2020 to encourage the use of local labor and SCCCD graduates.

The new campus will be an open campus with a park-like setting including bicycle and pedestrian paths to facilitate engagement with the outdoors and green space as well as biking and walking to work, school, and home. This park setting will also include an urban forest and bio-retention system to promote ground water recharge. A central feature of the campus will be the central plaza and water feature. The water feature will include an integrated art piece.

To promote sustained engagement with the community, the district partnered with the Fresno Arts Council to publish a Request for Proposal to qualified artists with a connection to Fresno. The artwork had to celebrate the cultural diversity and unique sense of place of West Fresno. Submissions were evaluated by a community leadership committee. The selected artist, Teresa Flores, will be engaging the local community and Rutherford B. Gaston Middle School students through outreach events to gather stories, history and ideas about West Fresno to help inform the painted tile vignettes that will be featured in the water feature artwork.

As of April 2022, installation of interior and exterior framing, insulation, gypsum, roofing, fire sprinklers, overhead plumbing, HVAC ductwork, low voltage, and fire alarms are ongoing. Concrete slab on grade pours are complete and the water feature has been fully stripped of its forms.
