Classification Maintenance
Subsequent to the completion of the classification study implemented on July 1, 2018, an agreement was made between the District, CSEA, and the Commission to establish regular classification maintenance to ensure that the classification specifications remain up-to-date and accurately reflect the duties of each position. Additionally, classification maintenance would ensure that employees are allocated to the appropriate classification specification.
The District has partnered with McKnight and Associates to facilitate this next phase of classification maintenance. McKnight and Associates brings over twenty-five years of extensive experience serving both two-year and four-year higher education institutions throughout California and across the United States. Their team of seasoned Human Resources professionals specializes in classification analysis tailored specifically to the unique needs of higher education environments.
Approximately, 86 classified classification specifications will be reviewed in this next phase (Group B), along with 39 Academic Manager classification specification (up through the Vice President level). A breakdown of the classifications being studied include:
- Classified Bargaining Unit (CSEA) Positions - 38
- Classified Management Positions - 33
- Confidential Position(s) - 15
- Academic Manager (up through the Vice President level) - 39
The classification specifications have been divided into three groups: A, B and C, based on judgments regarding the relative rates of change that are likely to occur in duties, job requirements and/or external conditions that impact job content, knowledge, skills, and abilities requirements and job size. The Change Index timeline is as follows.
Change Index Timeline:
A – Every 4 Years
B – Every 7 Years
C – Every 9 Years
