Passing of Dr. Ned Doffoney and Mr. Ronnie Snipes

Oct 27, 2022

Dear Colleagues,

It is with deep sadness that I share with all of you the recent passing of two members of our State Center family.

On October 25th we learned of the passing of former Fresno City College President, Dr. Ned Doffoney. Over the course of four decades, Dr. Doffoney was a trusted mentor to countless individuals and was a tireless champion for thousands of community college students throughout the nation.

He was appointed president of FCC in July of 2002 and provided valuable leadership with the passage of the SCCCD bond campaign, Measure E, which gave us the ability to rehabilitate and reopen the Old Administration Building.  In addition, he led and supported the 2007 OAB “A Legacy Renewed" Capital Campaign raising over $2.6 million dollars.  Dr. Doffoney made many other notable contributions during his tenure at FCC.

Thank you Dr. Doffoney for your years of kind and thoughtful service. You have left a legacy and will be greatly missed.

On October 26th we heard about the passing of our colleague and friend, Mr. Ronald (Ronnie) Snipes.

Mr. Snipes began teaching classes in 1996 at the State Center Community College North Centers and was a highly sought-after instructor who taught in multiple areas of the business curriculum. Students requested his classes specifically because of his reputation as a caring, welcoming instructor who was highly committed to their success.

“Ron was always so engaged with our college, community and cared deeply about our students,” stated MCC President Dr. Ángel Reyna. “It was very clear from the first time I met Ron that he had a passion for teaching.”

Thank you Mr. Snipes for your many years of caring service to our students and you will be remembered.

Service information for both Dr. Doffoney and Mr. Snipes will be forthcoming. In the meantime, our thoughts are with their family and friends.  On behalf of the State Center Community College District, I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to their family, friends, colleagues, former students and admirers.

Sincerely,

Dr. Carole Goldsmith
