Follow-Up Message: Severe Weather Impacts Oakhurst Campus - March 6, 2023

Mar 6, 2023

Good morning Colleagues,

A Winter Storm Warning has been in effect for Eastern Madera County foothills and Sierra communities over the weekend through Monday morning 3/04-3/06. Significant new snowfall from this recent winter storm has once again impacted students and colleagues who live in the Oakhurst area.

All in-person hybrid classes scheduled to take place at the Oakhurst Campus will need to be held online for Monday, March 6, 2023.

If you are unable to continue with the instruction of your classes on, please let your students, department chair, and dean know. If you don’t have internet access, contact your department chair or dean as soon as possible, and they will ensure an email message is sent to your students.

Faculty and staff who live in or near Oakhurst and commute to the Madera campus, Fresno City College, Reedley College, Clovis Community College, or District Office are approved to work remotely through Monday, March 6th and must notify their supervisors that they live in/near Oakhurst and will be working remotely.

The severe weather will continue to impact people in multiple ways, so communication, patience, and flexibility will be important to our entire campus community. Students who live in or near Oakhurst and commute to the Madera campus or to Fresno City College, Reedley College, or Clovis Community College should contact their instructors to let them know they live in an area impacted by the snow. It is our expectation that our faculty will provide the necessary flexibility and grace to those students.

Winter storm systems may produce heavy snowfall, ice and/or high winds resulting in falling trees/limbs and power outages. Be prepared for road closures and extended power outages.  Please stay indoors.  If you must travel, have food and water, blankets, and plenty of warm clothing with you. Carry tire chains.

Your safety is our top priority, so please utilize the following resources for planning and navigating any weather-related impacts. If you are in life threatening circumstances or otherwise require immediate emergency assistance, always call 911.
