Password Requirements

District users shall create/select passwords according to the following general guidelines.

Password Minimum Length: a password must be no fewer than twelve (12) characters.

The password does not require uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, or special characters but we strongly recommend your password uses strong password characteristics.

Strong Passwords: strong passwords have the following characteristics:

  • Contain a combination of uppercase and lowercase characters; (e.g., a-z, A-Z)
  • Are structured as a passphrase (e.g., the phrase might be, “MyFirstCarWasADatsun” or “My_First_Car_Was_A_Datsun”
  • Are not based on personal information (e.g., names of family, birth dates, etc.);
  • Can contain digits and punctuation characters (e.g., 0-9, !@#$%^&*()_+|~-=\{}[]:”;’<>?,/);

Password History: the reuse or recycling of previously used passwords is prohibited. Some District systems are configured to maintain user password history to prevent this practice.
