Message from the Chancellor Regarding Juneteenth Holiday

Jun 16, 2023

Good afternoon colleagues,

Gentle reminder that the colleges and district offices will be closed on Monday to commemorate Juneteenth, an important milestone in our nation's history.  I had the opportunity to attend the first annual Juneteenth Celebration at Clovis Community College.  I learned new aspects of the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. I hope you will join me in reflecting on the progress made toward racial equality while recognizing there is much work that still lies ahead.  Your work here at State Center Community College District is an active contribution to our efforts to advance diversity, equity, inclusion and fostering an environment of respect and understanding. Thank you for your ongoing support in these endeavors.   Together, we can create an inclusive and thriving educational environment that nurtures the personal, professional, and academic growth of all of our students, and ourselves.

“Juneteenth has never been a celebration of victory or an acceptance of the way things are.  It is a celebration of progress. It’s an affirmation that despite the most painful parts of our history, change is possible – and there is still so much work to do.” - President Barack Obama

Happy Juneteenth!
