The Police and Fire Academies are among the most impacted programs at FCC. The District pledged through Measure E that a new campus would be built to house the Police and Fire Academies. The funds from Measure E were insufficient to build a campus, but with the passing of Measure C, funds became available to establish a sufficient home for our Police and Fire Academies.
Phase I of this project will include permanent facilities to house academies for police, fire and EMT in addition to master planning of the campus for future expansion. It is also intended that Phase I include a burn tower for Fire Academy training and a scenario village for the Police Academy.
Project Updates
At the August 6, 2019 Board of Trustees meeting, SCCCD trustees approved awarding the architectural contract for the New First Responders Campus to PBK architects. Three architectural firms were invited to interview on July 10, 2019 with the selection committee comprised of campus and district administration, program faculty and staff, and police and fire officials from surrounding jurisdictions.
Approximately 40 acres of property has been acquired at Willow and North Avenues. Bush Construction, Inc. was the lowest responsible bidder and approved by the Board of Trustees on December 14, 2021. Groundbreaking happened on February 17, 2022. If you were unable to make it the event, you can watch it on FCC's Youtube channel. A ribbon cutting occurred on October 20, 2023.
As of January 2024, the campus is open for business. Police, Fire, and EMS classes are underway.
