COVID-19 Fast Facts

March 8, 2020

  • Fresno and Madera counties each have their first case of coronavirus disease. These are travel-related cases and not community-acquired cases.  The two travelers were tested after returning from a Grand Princess cruise
  • There is no immediate threat to the general public
  • The Health Departments are NOT recommending cancellation of events, closure of schools, or buildings
  • According to health experts, 85% of coronavirus cases are mild to asymptomatic
  • The deaths have primarily been associated with the elderly and those with compromised immune systems
  • Quarantine is necessary to stop the spread and keeps those who are infected from coming into contact with those at risk
  • State Center Community College District is closely monitoring the situation
    • We have campus preparedness plans and procedures in place
    • We will follow the direction of the County Department of Public Health to ensure everyone’s safety
    • Custodial staff have implemented a cleaning protocol and staff is disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces

Do Your Part:

  • Stay at home if you are sick
  • Stay away from those who are sick
  • Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds (sing Happy Birthday twice)
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces at home, work and school
  • Get plenty of sleep, exercise, drink plenty of fluids, and eat healthy foods
