Purpose and Mission

The Mission of the State Center Community College District Grounds Services Department is to provide support services to the district and campuses in order to provide safe, well maintained, attractive facilities that provide outstanding learning and working environments.

The goal of Grounds Services is to provide systematic, ongoing, routine, corrective, preventive, and emergency services in a manner that is well prioritized and cost effective based on the available budget.

  • Establish procedures designed to maintain a safe, healthy, attractive work environment for students, staff, and the public.
  • Maintain the grounds in a safe and attractive manner.
  • Identity and implement Intergraded Pest Management.
  • Identify, establish and maintain Sports Turf (athletic fields).
  • Identify and repair facilities that are unsafe, non-operational or unattractive.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Provide emergency response and repair of equipment and facilities in order to maintain the campus in an operational manner.
  • Provide an environment for the Grounds Services staff that enhances their performance and encourages them to provide services in a safe and effective manner.
  • Provide a work order system that allows administrators, staff, and the opportunity to submit requests for service in order to respond to general and safety related grounds concerns.

Delineation of District and College Roles, Responsibilities, and Service Outcomes

The role of the Grounds Services Department is to provide maintenance and repair services to enhance the overall appearance of the grounds, for all district facilities. There are no provisions in the function or budget of Grounds Services that allows for additional services beyond the grounds maintenance and repair of district facilities.

The district is comprised of 7 campuses located on 768 acres with campuses located in Fresno, Clovis, Madera, Oakhurst, and Reedley. Four of these campuses are over 100 acres in size, with one of the four being over 420 acres. Included are four Child Development Centers, and multiple athletic fields at multiple locations. There is also an eighth master planned campus located in Southeast Fresno; this 100+- acre site has been purchased and will be developed once funding is available. The total maintained service area is approximately 444 acres.
